About the College
In 1994, AIM launched two programmes leading to Post Graduste Diploma in Management (PGDM) : a two year full time and a three year evening course of studies. These are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) , the statutory body to grant recognition to such courses.They are thus fully equivalent to those leading to MBA degree.Selection of participants to these courses is through a rigourous 3 tier selection process.Already 3 batches have graduated and have been well received by industry.
The PGDM Programme follows the trimester pattern of the IIMs, with a rigorous work schedule, a continous evaluation process and incorporation of many innovative teaching inputs. All participents are exposed to intensive inputs on Written and Oral Communications, as also Managerial Analysis and Effectiveness.
AIM’s programmes emphasise self-developement and communications skills of participants. In addition, group learning, case method, hand-on computer experience, exposure to work-like situations, and interaction with eminent practitioners are regular features.
Self development and group work are emphasised to mould a multifaceted executive personality. In the second half of the programme, AIM exposes the participents to advanced courses in two functional fields, as also emerging areas ofv management concern such as Energy and Environment Management, Ethics, Management in the non-Corporate sector etc.
Paucity of well-trained professional personnel has been the major reason for the underdevelopment of the North Eastern region of the Indian sub-continent. Accepting this gap as a thrust area for infrastructure building, the government of Assam sponsored the Assam Institute Of Management (AIM), in 1998. It is the only fully autonomous management institute in the country to be promoted by any state government in India.
The mission of the Assam Institute Of Management is to become a CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE by carrying out teaching, training, rersearch, consultancy and networking in the field of management as also allied disciplines. The aims and objectives laid down to work towards this mission are :
• To provide for and promote education and training in various fields of management and allied disciplines.
• To assist organisations in problem-solving and improving functioning.
• To carry out conceptual and applied research in fields relevant to regional development and
• To interact with industries and institutions to further the management movement and thus facilitate regional development.

Life at Campus
AIM has a state of the art computer system with LAN and INTERNET facilities. The Institute maintains close co-ordination with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) through their teleconferencing facilities and MEIDs project. Besides, the Institute is well connected with millions of information centres spread all over the world through internet. Its library houses over 6000 books, 1000 reports and materials and subscribes to almost 15 daily Newspapers and 50 periodicals. It is undergoing major expansion in veiw of the needs of the post-graduate/certificate programmes.
